Corporate Social Responsibility

At KK Security, a GardaWorld Company, undertaking business in a socially responsible manner is crucial to the way in which we operate.

It includes the ethical conduct of business, aligning with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, respect for people and communities, and environmental responsibility. Our wider commitment to corporate social responsibility across KK Security, built into the structures and models across the business, is formalised through our status as a Participant of the UN Global Compact and our annually published UN Global Compact Communication on Progress.

As part of our ambition to deliver social value both throughout and beyond our core operations, we are committed to carrying out high-impact community projects that support local communities in a sustainable manner. We engage in a variety of self-led and partnership-focused initiatives, predominantly in the areas of healthcare, education and sport, which frequently involve a stakeholder-led process to ensure the greatest value can be provided.

Some of our recent Corporate Social Responsibility projects include:

Signed Up United for Wildlife Buckingham Palace Declaration

GardaWorld Africa has signed up to the Buckingham Palace Declaration, though which we become members of the United for Wildlife International Taskforce on the transportation of illegal wildlife products.

This Declaration has important synergies across our Africa business and we believe as an organization that through our everyday services, we can make a positive impact against this global challenge.

United for Wildlife is a charity set up by Prince William and the Royal Foundation to tackle the illegal wildlife trade across the world.

Partnering to provide higher education scholarship opportunities

KK Security, a GardaWorld Company and Strathmore University have recently partnered to provide the first fully-funded four-year scholarship to children of company employees in Kenya.

The collaboration is part of a company-wide ambition to enhance access to education through a range of platforms across our operating markets.

Supporting the implementation of a cervical cancer screening program

In Rwanda, GardaWorld are proud to have acted as the implementation partner in Bio Ventures for Global Health’s (BVGH) Educate, Screen and Treat (EST) Cervical Cancer Screening Program.

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Rwanda Biomedical Center, the program saw over 6,000 women screened for cervical cancer across the Bugesera district of Rwanda across August - September 2021, with follow up treatment provided as required. Most notably, GardaWorld provided support to the program in the following ways:

  • Provision of transportation solutions across the program, including the transportation of all samples for processing in Kigali, and transportation of women from their homes to Kigali where further treatment was required.

  • Development and distribution of all communications materials to enable the effective promotion of the program, and awareness-spreading of the importance of being screened for cervical cancer.

  • Provision of on the ground logistical and administrative support through employment of a dedicated team member to champion the project.

Enhancing access to secondary education

Applicants are encouraged from across Hoima and Buliisa Districts and the first fully-funded scholarships are for admission in January 2023. KK Security look forward to progressing this exciting partnership and supporting the first scholars.

Run and race Kili with KK Security

Each year, KK Security, a GardaWorld Company, sponsor and participate in the annual Kilimanjaro Marathon held in Moshi/Arusha.

The race is a great opportunity for local running talent to meet, and it draws quality runners from neighbouring countries and from around the world, with runners from up to 40 nationalities attending the event.

The event brings social and economic benefits to the region, and has also influenced a change in lifestyle across the country, with many more people taking up running to keep healthy and socialise. Every true Tanzanian wants to participate in the “Kili” as it is known, and the medals are worn with pride from Tunduma to Taveta.

Rhino Charge sponsorship, Kenya

KK Security has been a sponsor of the annual Rhino Charge in Kenya since 2005.

The Rhino Charge is an off-road 4×4 competition where entrants are required to visit 13 points (guard posts) scattered over approximately 100 square kilometres of rough terrain within a 10-hour period. The night before the event, entrants are supplied with a 1:50,000 scale map of the venue, coordinates of the 13 checkpoints, and their start position.

To assist in the security of this event, we supply 44 security officers to manage access control and general event security and two cash in transit vehicles.

The event is organised to raise funds to support the activities of the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust, an NGO that encourages the conservation and protection of Kenya’s mountain range ecosystems, the famous “Water Towers.”
